Backups
Weekly remote backups, kept for about a month
Every Limitless Hosting plan includes weekly remote backups, which we keep for about a month. A remote backup is stored away from the server that runs your site, so a fault on that server does not take your copy with it. You can ask for a restore through live chat or a ticket, and it helps to keep a copy of your own too.

What is covered
What a restore can bring back
Typically included
- Your website files
- Your databases, such as WordPress content
- Email accounts and their settings
- Account settings
Not a substitute for
- Your own copy of an important site
- Changes made after the last backup
- Fixing the cause of a hack or a bad update
- Copies of your content stored elsewhere
Good practice
Beyond the included backups
Back up before big changes
Before a theme change, a major plugin update or a redesign, take your own copy so you can undo it quickly.
Keep one copy elsewhere
Store a recent copy of your site and database on your computer or a cloud drive. The 3-2-1 rule is a good guide.
Know your gap
A weekly backup means you could lose up to a week of changes. If your shop takes orders daily, take extra backups.
Test a restore
A backup is only useful if it works. Restore to a test site once in a while to be sure.
Tell your team
Make sure someone knows how to request a restore, and that it is not only one person.
Ask early
The sooner you tell us about a problem, the cleaner the backup you can go back to.
Restoring
How to get a backup restored
Spot the problem
Note what went wrong and roughly when it started.
Contact us
Use live chat or open a ticket and say what you need restored.
Choose a date
Pick the most recent backup from before the problem began.
Check the result
Test the site, then update everything so the same issue does not return.
Planning
Choosing how often you need a backup
Ask one question: how much would you hate to lose? A brochure site that changes twice a year is well covered by weekly backups. A shop that takes orders every hour loses real money if it has to roll back a week.
If you cannot afford to lose a day, add your own daily backup of the database, which is the part that changes most. WordPress backup plugins can send a copy to a cloud drive on a schedule.
Also think about what you would do with a backup. A copy you cannot restore is not useful, so know the steps and who does them before you need them.
The 3-2-1 rule
A simple rule for safe copies
Keep three copies of anything important, on two different kinds of storage, with one copy somewhere else. Your live site is the first copy, our remote backup is the second, and a copy of your own on a computer or a cloud drive is the third.
- Three copies: live site, remote backup, your own copy
- Two kinds of storage: server and your own device or cloud drive
- One copy offsite: away from the server that hosts the live site
Sleep easier with backups included
Weekly remote backups come with every plan from 84p a month (£10.03 billed yearly).
